Mr. Certilman draws on more than thirty years of experience in legal problem-solving across a wide range of commercial subject matters and industries to provide advice and counsel which is both insightful and practical. Having been a commercial litigator as well as providing counsel to clients, he places great emphasis on preventive lawyering, an approach which requires thinking like a litigator in the drafting of agreements and documents. He believes that the interest of clients is best served when they are proactive in avoiding problems rather than reactive in responding to them. This helps to avoid unexpected outcomes and minimize business risk. In addition to his experience as a trial lawyer, Mr. Certilman has extensive experience in the corporate and commercial field and particularly in the areas of information technology and business process outsourcing, intellectual property, licensing and real estate and has built a successful practice dealing with problems arising across a wide range of industries.

Balancing his practice as an attorney, a substantial portion of Mr. Certilman’s practice involves service as arbitrator or mediator in domestic and international commercial disputes, which he has been committed to for more than twenty-five years.
Mr. Certilman has numerous publications in the field of ADR to his credit and is a frequent speaker and trainer in the ADR field. He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law teaching international law. He is a fellow of the distinguished College of Commercial Arbitrators as well as a Fellow of the London-based Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, having been designated a Chartered Arbitrator, its highest professional accreditation. Mr. Certilman is a member of major arbitration panels in the United States and worldwide.
